Beta-Amyloid forms are deposited in the CNS of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and Down’s syndrome. Biochemical analysis of the amyloid peptides isolated from Alzheimer’s disease brain indicates that Beta-Amyloid (1-42) is the principal species associated with senile plaque amyloids, while Beta-Amyloid (1-40) is more abundant in cerebrovascular amyloid deposits. Both result from the cleavage of Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) by secretases. The mAb 6E10 reacts to the abnormally processed isoforms, as well as precursor forms.
